Scary Places, Illustrated: Paper dioramas of bottomless pits, oversized structures and all manner of natural and unnatural scary places.

Throughout this book you will find three-dimensional paper dioramas depicting nine places that scare me. Cue deep-water caves, drains in lakes and ridiculously deep swimming pools.The project began while I was exploring online groups devoted to phobias of the ocean, submerged objects and oversized structures. Many of the photos shared enthralled me to the point that I felt compelled to draw them. To fully immerse myself in my fears, I decided to make them 3D. I printed, cut and pasted each drawn layer onto foam core and placed the resulting diorama into a cardboard frame. Photographs of these dioramas span the pages of this book. To complete the experience, I wrote up a detailed description of each scary place. Some of these places are of man-made structures, while others occur naturally through quirks of geology. But all of them thrill me with a deep and primal fear.I hope you enjoy viewing these pieces as much as I did in creating them.
