En su trilogía, Ismael, Nativa y Grito de gloria, se recogen los episodios más sobresalientes de la vida uruguaya desde el levantamiento criollo contra los españoles hasta la batalla de Sarandí en 1825.Eduardo Acevedo Díaz, escritor, periodista y político uruguayo perteneciente al Partido Nacional. Es considerado como el iniciador de la novela nacional de su país, tomó parte activa en la política y sufrió varios destierros.
